Summary

Infrastructure for Sustainable Development (i4SD) is a social impact start-up that uses innovation to change the way infrastructure systems are designed and operated. Motivated by the mission of the  of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we envision a world in which innovation can create a more vibrant economy and empower communities to become sustainable and resilient.

We work at the intersection of local data analysis, infrastructure planning, smart metering technologies and digital payments to deliver sustainable infrastructure projects, enabling access to services for larger segments of the population. We provide communities with access to electricity, clean energy for cooking, water and connectivity creating a positive economic, social and environmental impact.

Our team brings experience from working with the Earth Institute at Columbia University, UNDP and the Millennium Promise in projects in Sub Saharan Africa where we led pioneering work to tackle poverty. The team has worked together in SharedSolar; implemented at the Millennium Villages Project in Tanzania, Uganda and Mali and was one of the pioneers integrating smart metering, storage control and payment collection micro grid infrastructure for energy access.
